Thursday night ride 24 March 2005 - Elterwater

The Fab Four turned out, ........well OK 4 of the usual suspects turned up in the car park. Although Paul had forgotten his helmet...George volunteered to lend him his as he said Paul was worth IT (i.e. he had good insurance!) but Paul said George needed it as he fell off more, touche!

It was a warm & dry evening, although as it was the day before Easter weekend, it had rained earlier, thus it was boggy in places, especially under the trees!

Grants car was in the repair shop (again) and he was in a little courtesy car, so he forgot to bring cake again!! Can't wait 'till next week, to see what he brings.....

We did the usual circuit around the quarry, past the ford and up the hill all set for the great 'National Trust' downhill...........BUT hold on, all the bloody trees had fallen down overnight and the rollercoster ride was muted to say the least......... someone said they thought we had been informed, so much for listening to advice.

Back to the pub for a beer, no chips this time, something about Grants diet and not enough salads.

2005 Night Riding Awards

The classifications for the 2005 Night Riding Awards have been set, there are 10 awards this year which are as follows:
1. Best technical fault
2. Vogue award (for the best(?) dressed rider)
3. Big girls blouse
4. Best excuse (the Vicky Pollard prize)
5. Best Crash
6. Apollo 13 (for extraordinary exploration)
7. Most absent rider
8. Most replaced bike parts
9. Crazy whooping on descents
10. Token girly

If you wish to cast your votes comment NOW on whom you believe should win the most coveted prizes, or email Joel.
The awards certificates will be presented on the evening of the 7th April...(does anyone have a red carpet?)

RULES:
More than one award may be presented to a single rider!
Only one entry may be submitted per email address.
In the event of a tie break, both riders will share the honour of that award for that season.
The deadline for the award is Midday Wednesday 6th april.

Thursday night ride 17 March 2005 - Ings

Once again another good ride with the usual suspects, 7 turning out in damp conditions, but NO rain! Although the mist did cause poor visability when using helmet mounted lights, when you really need low level fog lights.

There were a few tumbles given the wet rocks, otherwise no incidents, except for the lack of cake, someone said he forgot!! Anyway the Watermill at Ings provided chips and hot buttered rolls for £2.20 a basket, not bad for 8.55pm.

We put the world to rights in the pub after and planned the final few night rides, before the 'summer' season commences.

RADS Thursday Night rides 2004-5

Once again the intrepid group of Cumbrian mountain bikers known simply as "RADS" venture out into the winter night, come rain or shine!
A mixed bunch of riders congregate at a pre-determined location and begin unloading mountain bikes, from cars, trucks and wagons. Usually involving some pre-ride maintenance, i.e. some WD40 application to keep those wheels turning.
Lights of differing specification are fitted onto handle bar or helmet, batteries connected up and off they go........into the night, what a strange sight they must seem.

Only a few more nights rides to go this season, but check out the comments for feedback after each ride.
...and watch out for the latest 2005 award, the "Big Girls Blouse", for the person giving (making up) the most original excuse for not going on a ride.
