25th August 2016 - Troutbeck to Elterwater

George, Jamie, Grant, Amanda, and JP set off from Troutbeck towards Ambleside. Up Robin Lane, through Skelghyll wood, down Jenkin Crag where Grant punctured... sometime later, and a second tube installed we cruised into Ambleside. The smell of food was tempting but we continued onwards towards Loughrigg, following the road alongside river Rothay, behind Ambleside. Despite clearing Jenkin's safely, Grant and JP managed to get entangled, their handlebars locked together in a freak accident that resulted in both parties hitting the tarmac hard. After checking that the guests leaving the hotel opposite had not witnessed the embarrassing incident we set off towards the climb up Miller Brow. On descending the other side, George almost lost his keys, but they were discovered and safely returned.  We then took the gentle track around Loughrigg tarn and then climbed up the road which fortunately wasn't as dangerous as the previous tarmac encounter. From High Close we took the left track down towards Elterwater. After some debate about whether there was enough time and energy to do a loop around the quarry, we climbed back up to High Close and down Loughrigg terrace. From here we retraced our route back up Jenkin's just as it was getting dark, then back down to Troutbeck. No photos as I was too busy using my phone to contact personal injury lawyers!

18th August 2016 - Ribblehead heading east

A few of us met up at Ribblehead for a bit of the Cam High Road, Charlie, Phil, Grant, Joel, George, Jamie and CT. Head south along the B6479 until past Selside and watch out for lorries passing, still some traffic on a summers evening, then take a BW left heading north and work your way along the BW and lanes to pick up the Cam High Road and views back towards the viaduct.
Ok so there are a few gates along this route, but and the BIG but is that once on the Cam high road and once at the top, you can turn off and start heading back...via a great descent, with jumps, loose gravel and downhill;) so good that the RADs training ride got a KOM, see proof below, we won't take all the credit...JB was there ;)

11tth August 2016 - Winster

George,  Charlie,  Joel,  Amanda,  Claire,  Jamie and CT met up at Winster.  The route looked like this, 

We started by going up the lane, then right on main road then head down the bridleway for a first section of mud,  up and down pay the duck pond,  then left on the lane and down to the ford,  now up the hill.  Right turn and head past the camp site down past the pond and enjoy the descent. 

Everyone was warming up nicely maybe even enjoying the ride,  but no whooping just yet 😉 apparently some folk were in training... But some had done the Fred,  so Rads is just a nice pace... Just about enough breath to chat while riding along! 

Someone mentioned jelly babies and luckily JP had bought some so we had snacks at the half way point,  maybe it wasn't exactly halfway but who cares! We had a bit of nav to sort out across one Hill but managed to "stay on the bike" and find our way. 

Nice climb at the end, note fat bikes climb better if a little air is let out ;) last bit ride past the cows and ducks and back to the cars.

Overall about 10 miles.  Next ride was discussed and anticipating some fine weather, let's go for Ribblehead,  bring lights just in case. 

4th August 2016 - Farleton

It was decided by the riders to complete a local ride rather than Ribblehead.  Charlie, George and Stephen met at Yealand Conyers and set off along A6 turning right onto Tarn lane through Burton to meet Paul at the bridleway to the fell.  We followed bridleway until after the fourth gate where we met a track and continued left over the fell and up to the trig point.  From here we went down the west side of the fell and transversed back to the main track.  Here we found signs on the gate stating no cycling or horse riding and warning us there are no bridleways on Farelton Knot (suspect this means the NT areas at northwest end, albeit have been used by locals for last 30 years or so).  We proceeded back down the hill towards the main bridleway which is sign posted at the road.  Paul took the wrong route and had to come back to join the other riders. Before proceeding back down the bridleway we decided to have a look at the path on the Hutton Roof side of the road but it was decided to give this a miss due to it being over grown.  So it was a fast trip back via the bridleway to Burton road. From here Paul went home and the remaining 3 riders travelled back to Yealand via a bridleway off Clawthorpe road to Vicarage Lane Burton.  From Yealand this was 16.5 miles and a bit more for Charlie back to Warton.

28th July 2016 - Gilpin Bridge for Yewbarrow

4 turned out for a lap of Yewbarrow, Jamie, George, Clare and Amanda, apparently everyone one else was either packing to go on holiday, on holiday or coming back! and someone was crashing in the Alps just to add injury!
