20th November 2014 - Staveley

Jamie M, Charlie, Grant, George, Jamie B and CT made it out and met up at Barley Bridge, JB had re-built his bike and it looked very CLEAN with a new mudguard, a bit of an MOT to go with his medical procedure:) It was a tad cool waiting to go, so we set off up the lane, Scroggs, and onto Staveley Head for Green quarter descent to Kentmere and up to 3 rivers, but we took the right hand route for a change. Down though the singletrack, past the gate and down the rough stuff, then an instant flat for Jamie M, the blow out had actually made a 2"split in the tyre wall, so a tyre boot was required (maybe even a toothpaste tube, always worth having), repair made and onward, down the track, back along the cycle path, all OK if a little muddy, approx 11 miles.

13th November 2014 - High Cross Hawkshead Hill - A balmy night in November for Mission Impossible...

We parked at High Cross and 3 made it out Charlie, George and CT, it started out windy and following earlier rain in the afternoon, jackets were worn. We started off heading into Grizedale on fire road, some uphill but not too steep. Carry on through the forest and head for Parksmoor and down past the cottage, then climb back up and east to the descent to Satterthwaite, not all the way, then left towards the visitor centre and head up the NF route, CT went first but dabbed a little way into the climb, G&C went past, then later we passed Charlie and George took the lead for a while, he was first to that sharp right hand corner and slipped off the rock with a yelp, Charlie shouted out it must be impossible corner...just as CT approached it, so take a wide entry line and keep left and go past George and clean it, yes you can! probably only the second time but always good to do it, then continue on and up. This NF section seems to have changed, possibly different in the dark, a little more warn, some more obvious drops off the side, but it was a good route up. Now the wind had eased and the temperature was fine, so jackets off to cool and not over boil in a bag. Continue on NF route for two more sections and meet up with Biketreks gang along the way, last time we bumped into them was in Grizedale as well, the stars were out and you could see the lights of Coniston down below, very tranquil ride back to the fire road and back to the cars. 13 off miles and a great ride out. Next ride likely to be Barley Bridge, Staveley.

6th November 2014 - Ings blast and meal

A few of us met up at Ings, Charlie, George, Grant, Neil, Jamie M & B and CT and headed out for 3 rivers in some rain showers. We were passed by some MTBers on an early section and there was another group coming up behind us, but they never actually catch up. At the top of 3 rivers the rain started and we decided to head back for food, the river crossings were higher than normal, doh! so wet feet followed but just a short ride and warm food after. Into the Watermill for food, slight changes to the menu, may need a re-visit! Next ride Hawkshead Hill.

30th October 2014 - Troutbeck

Charlie, Jamie, Grant, George and CT met up in the lay-by near the church on the lower Kirkstone road, we set off up past Limefitt and round to come back down Garburn, Charlie enthralled us with a tale about a fellow MTBer who had been riding in Sheffield area last weekend but had had a miss-hap which involved a hospital visit, also mountain rescue and a helicopter trip, he had apparently broken some ribs, burst a lung, broken vertebrae, broken shoulder and blade, broken hands, but was managing to txt and tweet from his hospital bed, so was not too bad, get well soon! So we took it easy on the rocky descent after that information. Left onto the road and then right turn down the field and over the river crossing, then up the single-track to find Inga at the top who informed us about her menu for tea:) Then onwards and up Robin lane, re-group at the seat, to comment on how warm the evening was, we were a little over dressed. Then down the rocky route to the lane right and then down Mirk and along to go up Wain lane. On the way down Mirk we all hit the water bar near the bottom, hidden by leaves, but no actual punctures, even Jamie on 'cross bike. Now enjoy the climb up the leave covered boulder field that is Wain lane, Grant did very well, nice and easy and concentrate! Back to the cars via the lanes and past the church, not many miles but an enjoyable work out. Next ride from Ings and also a meal after.
