Thursday 26th May 2005 - White Hart, Bouth

9 set off from the White Hart (after a small delay, as someone forgot there front tyres!) heading to Oxen Park, then off road around Park Wood, down to Force Forge, back round to Oxen Park, only one puncture and then off to finish by Colton Church, over to old hall and back to Bouth. Where Jamie and Phil joined us after doing their own ride after leaving too late, losing the way....etc, etc.!
Next week 6,30 at Barley Bridge, Staveley for the Longsleddale ride.
PS: The editor did the Glentress Red Route at the weekend and it's a must do ride! Watch this space for news of up and coming trips out with RADS at weekends.

Thursday 19th May - Under Loughrigg, Ambleside

10 riders started out and half way up the first hill, Miller Brow, big Phil joined us riding his new DH bike. We took the usual route over Loughrigg Fell and down to Tarn foot, along the lane to the Elterwater road, past the timeshare, left at the Wainwight over the foot bridge and on up to the quarry. Then up the very technical climb amongst the trees (a bit of walking through Sawrey's Wood) down the lane towards little langdale, left then first right to the ford (Joel declined the water crossing after last week dip) then left fork through Strang End to the NT wood, back along the road to Elterwater pub for chips (well at least 3 of us) then the road climb up to High Close and the sweet down hill of Loughrigg Terrace, a quick water splash thru' Rydel then back to the cars. Did I mention punctures, I think we got away with it, only Phil brought his geared bike and so his freewheel hub gave some grief and he went home on the road from the pub.
Next week The White Hart at Bough for a 6.30pm start.

Thursday 12th May - Barbon

"The sun was out and it was warm on the ground as we all parked up by the church, Trevor was even sporting an optimistic short sleeve number but it soon got a little chilly and very windy on the tops as we climbed around Casterton Fell and descended towards Barbon Low Fell. Phil was still maintaining that single speed mountain biking was the way forward!
With the end in sight and only one slight technical (Harry puncturing again for the second week in a row) it was all steam ahead for the final descent through the woods descent at Barbon Park. But before we could get there it was the Beck crossing at Barbon Beck. While attempting to follow Jamie's lead of a clean pass through the water, Joel managed to clip a rock and face plant into the water to everyone's amusement and wisely everyone else decided to opt for the bridge crossing. Luckily Ian had organised the chips in the pub, so everyone was happy!

5th May (05/05/05) - Crook Road ride

This one starts by Windermere golf course and heads round Undermillbeck common, crossing the road by High Mill, heading near Winster House, then doen the road to the ford at Birks Brow. Turn left along the lane then right up the bridgeway Crag Lane and on up Bow Mabble Breast to come out back at the first lane for a repeat before heading back via the road past the golf club. 8 riders turned out, one puncture at the first off road section (John) and the second puncture 100yds from the end (Grant who else!!) and Phil did the ride on his modified Specialised rigid single speed - he's in the running for a new award for "MTBing with a strange machine".
Jamie, Jim & Charlie took a rain check, they were resting before their Sunday ride on the Fred Whitton Challenge, over 100 miles taking in the major passes of the Lake District - Good Luck!

Ride 28 April 2005 - Clappersgate

8 riders started out from Clappersgate, parking by the River Brathay, heading south down B5286 to High Wray and up to base camp, on up to the guide posts and a little de-tour by the technical route around Long Height. Then headed west downhill to Colthouse (first puncture Grant 1), along by Scar House Lane then up the road and thru' Spicka Coppice (second puncture Grant 2, third puncture Harry, 50yds on fourth puncture Ian) then back via the road.
So 8 riders 4 punctures, what next? Ride light folks!
Next week 6.15pm at Crook Road, park in lay-bys near golf course.
