29th April 2010 - Lowick Tottlebank

7 met up by the Red Lion at Lowick Bridge, Charlie, John, George, Ian, Grant, Jamie and CT. We set off south west down the lane go right after Lowick Hall, continue over cattle grid and tee off left on Long lane, right turn at Kiln bank, watch the spaniel running around enjoying the evening freedom. Now up Subberthwaite bank to see if Grants legs still worked! Down the other side and pick up the lane, heading left up and over Tottlebank, onto the fell and along to Giant's Grabe and watch out for the muddy puddle, especially if you have new shoes...eh Charlie? Now straight over the lane, albeit after a little route discussion, enjoy the fell track and down to the lane, now right and roll down the tarmac, after a mile tee off right and onto the bridleway, but not all the way up, take the left fork to Green moor, a very nice section of singletrack. Now down and around green moor wood, then up the steep climb, but look out for the bridleway on your RHS, here we take a break for Charlie's caramel shortbread, very good indeed, so much so an extra piece was consumed but some folk (no names...yet!) Now we head back around Woodland Fell and enjoy the singletrack, there was to be one hill climb at the end which was very hard, great gripping dry conditions, but too steep, especially after all that cake, otherwise CT & JB would have cleaned it...!! Now descend to the lanes and head back past Kiln bank and back to the cars in time for dusk. A great ride finished with a few drinks in the pub. Next ride Hawkshead.
