27th January 2011 - Haverthwaite
5 made it out, George, Chris M, Jamie, Grant and CT. Now there were 2 riders on hardtails (and one was a 29er!). The usual route head south down the lane, turn left and head back north east along the track by the river Leven, nice steady climb, noticing that some work has been done to clear the ditches and waterways around the area. Now climb up a bit of tarmac at Low Brow Edge and onto the fell, here it is often muddy, tonight it was rideable, some water and give but grippy, you just have to hang on and keep plugging away. Before the decent we clipped Chris M gear cable back on so it would not get caught on a passing tree, not that you see many passing trees, but it was dark and you never know! Enjoy the descent and onto the lane at Canny Hill, continue to he A590 and cross straight over, at least after giving way to few cars, follow the lane and turn left at the end to start the climb up the fire-road, but you know it's worth it for the decent through the trees and out onto the fell above Staveley-in-Cartmel. A great section even Grant cleared the large stone slab with a smile on his face, good training for the Dalbeatie Slab! Back down the lanes round Newby Bridge passed Lakeside, over to Finsthwaite and round the road to the last downhill in Wintering Park, enjoy the rocks! Back on the road, too cold for a pub stop. Next ride is Satterthwaite.
