Only two riders Neil and George turned out on this wet and dreary night and Neil having ridden from Windermere via the ferry was about to go back home when George turned up at 6.50pm. We started the ride by leaving the pub at Far Sawrey and taking the left bridle way up the hill and into the woods before decending down to the lake as usual a great ride but a little tricky over the wet rocks. We then proceeded along the lakeside debating whether we should opt for Ian's special route or go via base camp. George felt he knew Ian's route but was not sure which way to turn when the track met the fire road. We proceeded along the lakeside and took the left track for Ian's route. On meeting the fire road we turned left (wrong of Course) and then proceeded to find the short loop which we usely do on this ride. Unfortunately we took the left turn which took us back down towards the Belle Grange on the lakeside. Realising we had taken the wrong route we took the footpath leading of to the right thinking this would take us back up but unfortunately it transversed the hill through the woods to join the bridlepath we first started on. This track was difficult in places and a lot of pushing was needed possibly why it is a footpath however there was also some interesting downhill sections and I would imagine on a clear day the view are excellent. Evetually we arrived back at Far Sawrey at 8.45pm just in time for Neil to cycle back to catch the last ferry and for George to also make it in time to save the additional drive via Ambleside. At leasr we got a free ferry ride. The moral to this is that two old blokes should not be allowed out at night without supervision.
