30th May 2013 - Troutbeck

A sunny clear evening saw Troutbeck as the venue for the ride. What should have been six riders was only four, as although Grant along with Phil thought they’d got the RADS ride down to a T, unfortunately they had the wrong T – Torver (Hummer Lane) instead of Troutbeck. So only four set off - Jamie, George, Steve and Neil - up the road, then along the bridleway onto Ing Lane, and the climb up behind Limefitt Park. Jamie tried on his phone to help Grant and Phil find their way through Broughton Moor Forest. Then when we paused at the gate, George noticed that his chain was very loose – Jamie checked it and the verdict was a spring was broken or had slipped out of position, unfixable on the trail, so George freewheeled back down. So we three did the loop up towards Garburn and the right turn to go down Dubbs Road and return along Longmire Lane. On the steep rocky descent down onto the Kirkstone road, Steve came off whilst trying to get over the high water bar that runs at an angle across the track, which resulted in a nasty injury to the front of his hip, after the application of a large plaster we all continued. Onto Robin Lane via the track by the church, and onto Skellgill Woods, somehow we got onto the A591 down a very exciting descent (shhhh?). Along to Wain Lane along the A591, Steve checked that his plaster wasn’t leaking, and then we went up Wain Lane, and briefly on the road and up the rocky climb to Robin Lane,  Troutbeck  and down the bridleway alongside the church. Just before the gate, before the stream, Jamie’s rear tyre deflated with a bang, with the sidewall slashed, and so walked the last 100 metres.   Update on Steve – 2 stitches needed on Friday at the health centre.
Next ride - Broughton forest off Hummer lane, south of Torver.
