So who was coming out, George turned up (well it was his ride;) JP also made it out just in time, George commented on the rain, rain I said just but a drop, no worries, Joel was in one layer of Merino, so a few degrees above freezing! We parked next to an RV already up on blocks ready for a quiet evening so we left them in piece (they could keep an eye on the cars).
We headed up the cycle path at a steady pace, a 29er, 27er and a fat 26 nice n'steady to start, heading up to Wray then keep going to base camp and up the singletrack, everyone had a go at the testing climb, not too bad either, keep going, shed a layer as it's warming up and not really raining;)...now onto the fire road is it right then left or left then right, 1st option and round to the guide posts, so that way we get the technical descent down the trail and then climb up for the testing slab, even with it wet we made it over the slab just faltered on the bit after! Carry on up the hill and over to the two tarns, on the last fast descent saw a badger so we let it run away in piece. Down through the ford, the fat bike loves water but JP doesn't! Past the pub and tee off left for the climb before the descent down to the lake:) raining a bit more now and so we decided to keep along the lake shore and head back, rain getting harder and colder so just head back on the road. So did not use Goretex, but tried an experiment with pertex and fleece, guess what it wetted through in the end and was cold, but we did 14.5 miles so all good to get out. The RV was tucked in for the night and now surrounded by more cars, another load of MTBers as well:)
Next week Ambleside, meet at Waterhead
